When starting a career, you want to be in cities that have plenty of jobs and a great system to build a career. Below, we'll have best overall cities, but also cities best for each career field and different areas, along with some secondary cities for each.
Note: This will only be US based cities. We're using data from a myriad of sources, from government to job board sites.
New York; the city of everything. You literally cannot go wrong here. I'm genuinely trying to think of a job that doesn't have opportunities in NYC, but outside of farming I really can't think of one. So, I guess if you're deadset on working in agriculture, then, not NYC I guess. Special mention to Chicago and SF here, as they're other cities of everything.
I'm emphasizing Bay Area because SF is not the only city in the Bay. San Jose, Santa Clara, Palo Alto. All these different cities in the Bay have tons of tech jobs. It's a metro area that has basically everything for tech. Special mention to Seattle, with it's very large tech scene and very high pay.
I mean, do I need to explain? Hollywood, all the stars, basically every major media company having a large presence. Nothing further needs to be said. Special mentions are going to NYC for show business, Nashville and Miami for Music, and Atlanta for film.
Not even gonna talk much about this. NYC is the best for finace full stop. Special mentions are SF/Bay for VC, Miami and Chicago for quant and PE, and Houston for oil and gas based finance.
Again, not much needed. It's the capital. Special mention for Sac town, as the California government is pretty consistently important to the US.
With multiple defense firms here and the largest aerospace company in the world in SpaceX, well, there you have a massive hub of Aerospace. Special mentions to Dallas, Seattle(Boeing manufacturing), Denver, and DC.
Well, with Healthcare, you can't really go wrong. Doctors are needed in every major city. SF, NYC, DC, Chicago, Minneapolis, and basically every large city.
Ok, so, maybe Philly isn't the best, but it is the most well rounded, and manufacturing is very diverse. I'd actually say for this that there isn't a concensus #1 city. Some good cities include basically any major city in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and maybe some from upstate NYC and Chicago. Look up the rust belt, as those tend to have a lot of manufacturing, and new kinds of manufacturing such as chips are coming in. Also, it seems like Phoenix is increasingly becoming a manufacturing hub, so look out for that.
